Custom Food Trays in North Carolina

North Carolina spans three quite different packaging markets in one state. Barbecue and traditional restaurant service inland, coastal seafood on the eastern side, and a substantial corporate catering trade around the research and banking centres.

Each has a distinct dominant specification: grease resistance for barbecue, moisture barriers for seafood, and presentation-led lidded formats for corporate catering.

Barbecue and the sides problem

North Carolina barbecue is typically served with a set of sides, and the packaging question is whether they share a tray or occupy their own containers. A single divided tray is faster at the counter, cheaper overall and looks more composed than three separate containers.

The trade-off is that a vinegar-based sauce and a slaw both release liquid, so the divided tray needs full-height dividers and a treated food-contact face. Get those two right and one container replaces three.

Coastal considerations

  • Seafood releases liquid over its shelf life; absorbent fibre keeps the product looking fresher than a flat impermeable tray.
  • Ice in a tray becomes standing water, which is the hardest condition for any board or fibre product — tell us the duration.
  • Coastal humidity affects stored stock; keep packaging in cartons in the driest space available.
  • Retail seafood packs need a flat panel for the barcode and legal information, planned before artwork.

Supplying North Carolina: common questions

Should barbecue sides share a tray or have their own containers?

A divided tray is usually better — faster at the counter, cheaper, and it looks more composed. It needs full-height dividers and a grease-resistant face, because slaw and vinegar-based sauces both release liquid.

What tray suits a coastal seafood counter?

Absorbent moulded fibre with a ribbed base for raw product, because it lifts the fillet clear of released liquid. For hot shellfish and boils, a barriered corrugated tray specified for wet weight.

Can trays hold ice?

For a service period with a proper barrier, yes. For hours, melting ice becomes standing water — the hardest condition there is for board or fibre. Tell us the duration and we will specify honestly.

Do you supply corporate catering companies?

Yes. Lidded trays sized to covers per tray, sandwich platters sized to your cut, and enough lid overlap that nothing lifts in a van. Branding on the lid is where the commercial value sits.

Does coastal humidity affect packaging?

It affects stored stock. Board takes on moisture from humid air and loses stiffness before it is ever used. Keep it in its cartons in the driest conditioned space you have.

Can you deliver across the state on one order?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper than separate orders because setup and tooling are shared. Give us the addresses and split quantities.
